A growing boutique law firm in Queens is seeking an experienced attorney to join its expanding Trusts & Estates practice, with a particular focus on guardianship matters. The firm has built a strong reputation for hands-on client service, practical guidance, and a collaborative internal culture. As the practice continues to grow, the firm is making a strategic investment in expanding its guardianship capabilities and is seeking an attorney who can help lead and develop that area. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone with 2+ years of New York guardianship experience who wants to step into a high-impact role, work closely with leadership, and help shape the future direction of an already successful practice. The firm also has potential plans to open an additional office in Brooklyn, creating further long-term growth opportunities.

The Opportunity

The ideal candidate is highly experienced in New York guardianship proceedings and comfortable handling matters from intake through resolution. The firm would value someone who can bring confidence, experience, and leadership in this area while also supporting related probate, elder law, and estate planning matters.

This role is ideal for an attorney who wants autonomy, direct client contact, and the ability to play a meaningful role in growing a practice area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle and lead guardianship matters in New York courts, including intake, petitions, hearings, and ongoing case management
  • Serve as a key resource in helping the firm continue to expand and strengthen its guardianship practice
  • Manage probate and estate administration proceedings in New York Surrogate's Courts
  • Advise clients on elder law planning, Medicaid eligibility, asset protection, and long-term care strategies
  • Conduct estate planning meetings and assist with drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and related documents
  • Work directly with clients and families through often sensitive and complex legal matters
  • Collaborate closely with paralegals and support staff to maintain efficient workflows and high-quality service
  • Contribute to the continued growth of the Queens office and possible future Brooklyn expansion

Qualifications

  • Active New York Bar license in good standing
  • 2+ years of relevant New York experience in guardianships
  • Proven ability to independently manage guardianship files and client relationships
  • Working knowledge of New York Surrogate's Court procedures and related probate matters
  • Strong communication, organizational, and client counseling skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with interest in helping grow a developing practice area

Preferred Background

  • Significant experience handling contested and uncontested guardianship matters
  • Estate planning drafting experience
  • Probate and estate administration experience
  • Interest in taking on a leadership role within a growing boutique firm
