Litigation Attorney - Remote

  • New York, NY, USA
  • Full-Time
  • Remote

Job Description:

Hybrid / Primarily Remote | Court-Focused Role | $80K–$190K+

A well-respected Queens law firm with an excellent reputation and strong community presence is seeking an attorney to work primarily remote. The firm's core focus is probate administration and contested estate matters, with estate planning serving as a secondary practice area. This is not a traditional estate planning position centered on drafting documents all day.

The firm operates with an efficient team structure in which experienced paralegals manage much of the estate planning drafting and file preparation, allowing the attorney to concentrate on higher-level responsibilities such as court appearances, legal strategy, final review, and dispute resolution.

Although the firm maintains an office in Queens, this position is primarily remote with occasional in-person responsibilities and local court appearances. It is an ideal opportunity for someone seeking meaningful courtroom exposure, autonomy, and hands-on responsibility without being tied to an office full-time.

Recent law school graduates or candidates coming from related practice areas such as civil litigation are encouraged to apply, provided they have passed the New York Bar.

The Opportunity

This role is heavily focused on probate litigation and court-facing matters. Support staff handle much of the drafting and administrative workflow, while the attorney focuses on advocacy, review, and contested proceedings.

  • Regularly appear in Surrogate's Court and related proceedings (primarily virtual)
  • Handle contested probate matters, objections, fiduciary disputes, and related litigation
  • Review, revise, and finalize probate and estate administration filings
  • Defend estates, executors, administrators, and fiduciaries in contentious matters
  • Participate in motion practice, hearings, and legal strategy development

Practice Mix

  • Majority probate administration and litigation
  • Approximately 10–20% estate planning oversight and final review
  • Occasional guardianship matters
  • Occasional real estate-related matters

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) with active New York Bar admission or recent bar passage
  • Strong interest in litigation, advocacy, and court appearances
  • Comfortable handling disputes or eager to develop courtroom skills
  • Civil litigation background is preferred but not required
  • Probate, trusts & estates, or surrogate's court experience is a plus

Ideal Candidate

  • Motivated, sharp, and professional
  • Humble, coachable, and eager to learn
  • Comfortable in court or excited to gain regular courtroom experience
  • Thrives in a lean, high-trust environment with strong support and training available

Schedule

  • Hybrid / primarily remote
  • Court appearances as needed, both virtual and in-person locally
  • Access to office space in Queens as desired
